      Do you think you can help me with my health problem?

      Functional medicine providers use a unique approach to uncover the underlying causes of many chronic health care concerns. The human body is intricately complex, and the concerns you are experiencing require careful consideration. The path to healing is best found in a partnership between a patient and a provider working together within a long-term commitment. This process works for the vast majority of patients who commit to the functional medicine approach.

      Can all the tests I need be done at Root Causes Medicine?

      All testing will be ordered by your treating provider but will be performed at outside facilities. This saves cost in many ways and allows us to focus on patient care rather than testing and supplies.

      Some testing can be done through conventional laboratories and others are only available through specialty laboratories. During your medical consultation, your physician will determine which tests are needed and then our nurses/medical office assistants will review testing recommendations, instructions (ex. fasting or non-fasting, etc.) and costs. We will assist you in coordinating initial and follow-up testing.

      Will I see other practitioners at Root Causes Medicine?

      All patient care is supervised by our medical director, Derek W. Guillory, MD. Other practitioners can and will be involved in your care when that care is appropriate, and you will be informed of any such recommendations prior to any changes.

      What are typical charges?

      Charges are initially based onthe scope of the medical problem and the time required to adequately address potential solutions. Whether a quick consultation or a detailed consultation is required will be determined prior to scheduling based on a brief understanding of the medical issue in question. Please discuss the issue with our staff, and they will make a recommendation. Any consultation fees paid for a quick consultation will apply toward the Detailed Consultation fee if a thorough evaluation is requested.

      Initial Quick Consultation: $250 per 25 minutes
      The Quick Consultation is designed for patients who have an isolated question or issue that needs to be addressed without an in-depth analysis of other ongoing issues or review of prior health records.

      Initial Detailed Consultation: $1100–110 minutes
      The Detailed Consultation is designed for patients who have a chronic illness and will need a detailed evaluation of prior medical records, review of ongoing medical treatment and current condition, and thorough discussion to discover underlying causes of the chronic illness. The 110-minute initial consultation fee includes a detailed evaluation of prior health records, medications, supplements, and a follow-up call to answer questions after the initial consultation. A deposit of $150 will be required at the time the electronic intake paperwork is submitted. The remainder of the total initial consultation fee will be collected at the time of the consultation.

      • MD Office Follow-up (50-minutes): $500

      • MD Office Follow-up (25-minutes): $250

      Can you explain your charges in more detail?

      The functional medicine approach used at Root Causes Medicine is quite different from the conventional medical model. Significant time and careful consideration by an experienced medical provider is the first step in developing a plan that can result in real improvement.

      The initial consultation begins when the intake paperwork is submitted, and the $150 fee which is due at the time of paperwork submission compensates our providers for the time required to carefully consider each new client’s health concerns. Significant time and attention is devoted to each concern PRIOR to the appointment. This saves valuable time and minimizes unnecessary expense. This allows a thoughtful provider to begin to understand the new client and to formulate a plan to proceed, and it maximizes the individualized attention that we can provide during your consultation.

      If the total fees are considered too costly, and financing is not an option, the initial appointment will not be scheduled.

      Is my $150 deposit refundable if I choose to not schedule the appointment?

      The deposit is not refundable. This deposit compensates our medical providers for the significant amount of time required to review your case prior to the visit.

      What happens after the initial consultation?

      During and immediately after your first visit, a personalized plan will be developed, and those plans, if not available during the initial consultation, will be discussed over the phone or in person within 1-2 weeks of your first visit. (This brief discussion of recommendations and total plan costs are INCLUDED in the initial consultation fee. The complex nature of some clients warrants careful consideration AFTER the first visit in some cases.) This plan will include lab and other testing as indicated, treatment recommendations including prescription medications, diet and lifestyle modifications, nutritional supplementation, and a recommended number of visits over a particular time period, usually between 3 and 12 months of total treatment time. The total cost for the entire plan will be calculated and discussed and implemented as soon as possible. At your discretion, all visits may be paid in advance at a discount to the typical fees. This is offered to incentivize an agreement to a long-term treatment plan and a pre-determined follow-up schedule.

      Do you take insurance?

      The providers at Root Causes Medicine are not participating providers with any insurance carrier.

      We do not file insurance claims on your behalf, nor do we assist with claim resolution.

      Each insurance company makes independent decisions on which charges are covered and what the reimbursement for each charge will be, and there is a significant amount of variability due to the high number of benefit plans offered by each insurance carrier.

      Root Causes Medicine will provide each client with a detailed receipt of services performed for you to submit to your insurance carriers for their review. Many of the charges will not be covered, and covered charges may only be covered at a significantly reduced rate.

      Can I submit a claim to Medicare?

      Root Causes Medicine providers do not participate in the Medicare program. If you are a Medicare Part B beneficiary and wish to become a patient of the Center, you are required to accept the terms and conditions set forth in a Private Contract between you and your provider. This Private Contract provides that absolutely no Medicare payment will be made to you or to Root Causes Medicine for the services provided, even if such services are covered by Medicare. Under the Private Contract, you acknowledge that you accept full responsibility for the payment of charges for all services rendered by Root Causes Medicine; such payments are due in full at the time of service.

      What credit cards do you accept?

      We accept the following credit cards: MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. It is important to maintain an active credit card on file with our office for billing of follow-up consultations, laboratory testing, and other services.

      If you plan to pay with a debit card we require a second method of payment on file as some debit cards have a daily payment limit.

      Are the providers at Root Causes Medicine primary care physicians?

      The providers at Root Causes Medicine do not provide primary care or acute care services. We will work with you closely as consultants and coaches in functional medicine to help you address the underlying causes of chronic health problems. They can confer with your primary care doctor if required.

      Do I have to see the physician in person for my medical consultation?

      Yes, their medical licenses require that they meet with a patient in order to provide an initial medical consultation. Follow-up appointments can be arranged by phone or in the office.
